Floating Target, Rotary Valve
The rotary valve type of floating target consists of a target body and a target paddle/valve assembly. During play, the target body is emptied of any water, and then the target paddle is rotated so that holes in the valve disk do not align with holes in the target body. The target is set afloat on the water surface. Striking the target paddle off-center with a vortex ring causes the paddle to rotate, thereby wholly or partially aligning the holes in the valve disk with those of the target body. Alignment of the holes causes water to flow into the target body until the target sinks into the water. The hole in the top of the target body allows air to escape as water enters the body. Fins on the body help to prevent the body from rotating when the target paddle is twisting due to having been struck.
